I've been living in the US for almost 4.5 years now. Last year I was flying from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and the security officer checking the Photo Id./boarding pass at LAX airport asked me the most intelligent question of the century.
"What's the purpose of your visit to Las Vegas?":confused:
I would expect this kind of question at immigration check for international arrivals and not on domestic departures. May be took his job too seriously.
I thought of saying "Gambling, booze and girls" but just answered "Sightseeing" and he let me go :D
I also had a similar experience in Canada where an officer asked the purpose of visit to Canada in spite of showing my Canadian PR card :)

I could not believe the stupidity of this woman. So, I replied "Mr. Dhurandhar Bhadvadekar"..

could you please explain the logic/rules.
The logic is that if both parents are Indians even if kid is born in US and travels on US passport as kid they have until the age of 18 to choose.

This is my first post here but I am silent reader for past two years. I got my GC approved couple of weeks ago. A week before that, I applied for EAD and AP renewal. Is there any way to ask USCIS to refund the money back since they have debited the money from my account and also received the receipt notice for me and my wife as well? I need your valuable suggestion here,

You can apply for your EAD renewal 4 months in advance. If USCIS takes more than 3 months to renew your EAD, you could visit the nearest USCIS field office and request for an interim EAD after you have accrued 90 days of filing EAD renewal. You will get your Interim EAD in day(s). My personal opinion would be not to spend too much $ for EAD renewal as it is simple online application and you have instructions on the USCIS website.

USA which is a so called developed country, takes 6 months to issue a passport due to the fact that USCIS is over...........loaded with work. So Flashing story is an old one and will only fit in Hollywood world.
The US Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs issues a US passport to eligible citizens. Applying for passport and issuance is not a USCIS affair and hence is a lot faster i would say a month or less at most ! Had it been a USCIS affair.... most americans will still be tracking their passport case status online ! :)

Hi, my I-485 approval might be close according to current processing time. I have moved within the same city. I wonder whether change of address at this time will cause any delay:
1. how likely due to change of address, my I-485 processing will be affected and got delayed?
2. how likely I will get a REF due to change of address?
3. Is it better to make an effort to keep the old address?

DREAM Act is held hostage up by the CIR advocates just like skilled immigration.
But the repeated failures will weaken the CIR coalition as some Latino organizations
like MALDEF have grudgingly started thinking about piecemeal options.
Dream act gives GC to illegals brought here as children by illegal parents. But then why shouldn't non-USC children of H1B get
GC before non-USC children of illegals. It is extremely hard to justify illegals are ahead of line of legals. But legals themselves
are so massively backlogged that asking illegals to go to the end of the line behind legals means nothing (practically) for illegals
amnesty advocates. H1Bs/EBs will put up with the country quota pain but La Raza et al will never buy that.
In fact, it is hard core anti-amnesty camp that is using the "piecemeal" strategy and winning again and again by ratcheting up the pressure through piecemeal bills like REAL ID act, Arizona law and its copy cat in different states.

my lawyer said that if anyone uses EAD to work or planning to use EAD soon (not H1B) then it is better to apply for EAD renewal before 6 months of current one expires. If you are in H1B not planning to use EAD even in future then you can renew it 3-4 months before expiry.

It not the right time to start campaign. All policians will be busy in elections an they may not hear waht we say. After elections may be the right time to do.
On the contrary, Immigration is one of the top issues now, and the stand on illegals and legals will be part of the campaign, besides jobs, economy, health care.
Their main work in campaiging is talking about how they will fix issues (Bills) and what they have done so far.... blaming others, etc.
They can do the dirty work for us in communicating to the public about EB visa increase and legal immigration issues.
On the contrary, Immigration is one of the top issues now, and the stand on illegals and legals will be part of the campaign, besides jobs, economy, health care.

My wife had gone to DMV in fair oaks mall and they had asked her to produce the original I485 and unfortunately we don't carry it. Our license is going to expire next month.
Anybody know what we can do in this situation. Has anybody got a licence recently from VA state.

Was your h1 approved or did you get RFE (Request for evidence). Did your attorney receive the approved petition? Are you currently in the US or outside US?

I changed my address using online AR11 on friday May 1st. I checked my case portfolio next day and saw a soft LUD on my I 485 application. Same with my wife. I think it is always better to get the address change done in the system because later it can be a big headache to solve. I will update forum if I hear anything from CIS.

In a perfect world you would return your employers 8K and he would give you your last two weeks salary.
But we all know the world is not perfect.

Although it might seem very appealing to put in multiple applications to increase the chance of obtaining a visa, one would actually be aggravating the situation than alleviating it. So the thought process should be how can one prevent the lottery situation from arising.. applying for a single visa on a requirement basis should suffice. That said it is unfortunate that the current situation and cap forces us to think of ways to resort to finding loop holes and take un-required actions. In an ideal world they should increase the cap. But whatever cap we have now, does not give us the right to jeopardize others chances of getting a visa. We should work this out together. Lets not clog the system.
Imagine hearing from somebody that they have a visa they never used when you don't have one, don't be that somebody.
I am currently on a dependent visa and have to go through the H-1 process. I have a masters and have every intention to stick to that quota and apply only one.

Yes, I would attempt Premium Processing on the pending I-140 first so that I can invoke AC21. I never heard of anyone's GC process jeopardized due to H-1B denial.

PD - April 12 2003.
I-485 RD - Last week of June 2008, ND - July 16th 2007.
Received RFE 5/14/08. (Previous I-94 copies, Wife's Vaccinations)
Reply to RFE - 5/30.
USCIS got acknowledgment 5/31. Soft update again on 6/02.
485 - AD - 6/03 received email about card production ordered.
His details are:
